Even Lee Priest comes to the defense of bodybuilder Nick Walker for his absence from Mister Olympia: “People don’t know…”
For those who do not know how bodybuilding works, they should know that poor digestion or slight discomfort during training, weeks before a big event like Mr. Olympia , can ruin a bodybuilder’s preparations for the rest of the year. Put yourself in a situation, you have been training like a mule for 6 months, taking care not to injure yourself, eating to the millimeter, counting everything, from grams to in calories, and two or three days to the competition, you feel unhealthy. This has happened to many top bodybuilders, and everything they’ve worked on up until that day will never be the same on stage.
Apart from the topic of steroids, The preparation of an elite physical therapist is unique: from the kilos they lift, to everything they eat or the hours of sleep they have. That’s why you shouldn’t throw up your hands when someone like Nick Walker, top 3 in the world a few years ago, decides not to take part in the Olympia.
Lee Priest: “You can only get to a 100% bodybuilding stage”
And this is how the legend Lee Priest sees it: “Everybody has started playing Nick because of his absence, and they don’t know anything. But Nick has an honesty and openness that stays he posted photos of his muscle progress, training, and of course, now people are allowing themselves to give their opinion without having any knowledge about bodybuilding.”
Absent due to injury at the 2023 Mister Olympia, Walker returned to win the 2024 New York Pro, but was criticized for his body tone. Many believed that he would not bring his best form to the Olympia, but Walker was getting going. “Indeed when the day approached, he did not see himself in a position to compete with the best and that is why he did not go, there will be reasons. But in truth people were- have expectations. If I were him, from now on I would only post pictures on social networks, showing calves and foreheads, other small ones”.
And he concludes by saying: “If you’re going to enter the bodybuilding stage, and even more than Mister Olympia, you can’t excel at 80 or 90%, you have to do it with percent, you have to be the best and perfect, because even the competitors or the judges will not forgive you, that’s right!
